My Approach
My approach to therapy is first and foremost non-pathologizing – I do not believe my clients’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors make them disordered or ill. I aim to create a safe space to explore the infinite ways that our human experience manifests, in a manner that is inclusive, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. While I incorporate elements from different types of therapy into my practice (including mindfulness and traditional talk therapy), my approach most often centers on two modalities: Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). IFS is a unique and comprehensive technique that helps us heal from difficult feelings and trauma, through building self-compassion, self-trust, and self-acceptance. This is done through strengthening the relationship with parts of ourselves that we may not always like or understand. ACT is based on the idea that the full array of thoughts and feelings we experience as humans can be powerful opportunities for healing, growth, and self-compassion – if we can make space for them. I am truly passionate about the effectiveness of these approaches and have seen firsthand how transformative and healing they have been for many of my clients.
My clients have benefited from my warm, compassionate, and straightforward manner. I value the ways that building trusting, close relationships with my clients creates effective pathways for healing. However, I know that beginning therapy is no easy thing. I hope to make the process as easy and welcoming as possible, to honor your journey toward growth.
